KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested 10 motorists for suspected drunken driving between Nov. 4 and Sunday. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash.
Kona officers arrested five drivers while South Hilo officers arrested three and Puna officers two, according to data released Wednesday by the Hawaii Police Department.
So far this year, there have been 939 DUI arrests compared with 944 during the same period last year, according to police. There have been 838 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,022 during the same period last year.
Eighteen fatalities had been recorded on Hawaii Island’s public roadways through Wednesday afternoon, police said. By this time in 2018, 27 people had perished.
